The Opportunity

Strum is currently looking to expand our Surveying division and has an opening in our Antigonish office for a Surveyor in Training to join our team.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • A degree in Surveying/Geomatics or a diploma and CBEPS certificate.
  • 2 years of relevant land surveying work experience, though recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Nova Scotia Land Surveyor and or Candidate.
  • Knowledgeable in the statutes, regulations, and practices of the Nova Scotia Land Surveyors Act, Municipal Government Act, Land Titles Act, Public Lands Act, and Surveys Act.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in using software tools is a must.

  • Strong organizational, communication, documentation, and technical skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing environment.
  • Comfortable meeting with clients and exploring new business opportunities.
  • A strong and competent team player, with the willingness to continuously grow and learn.
  • Strong sense of professionalism when interacting with co-workers, clients, and landowners.
  • Strong computer operating skills including MS Office.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, neatness, and professionalism in the completion of survey projects and plan preparation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

What You’ll Do

  • A combination of office and fieldwork.
  • Fieldwork consisting of completing boundary, subdivision, and topographic field surveys.
  • Fieldwork consisting of construction layout and quality control.
  • Office work consisting of subdivision lot design and resolving boundary solutions.
  • Preparing detailed survey approach and calculations on assigned projects.
  • Identifying and undertaking required surveying research.
  • Translating and processing field data.
  • Completing detailed drawings, reviewing milestones, and finalizing drawings.
  • Coordinating and directing AutoCAD drawing preparation.
  • Attending meetings with contractors, regulatory agencies, and clients.
  • Using software tools such as AutoCAD daily.
