Strum completed a Phase II ESA of the Sludge Ponds area at the IOC mine site in Labrador City, NL. The objective of the assessment was to determine if contaminants present in the sludge pond area had impacted a nearby surface water body. The project involved the following scope of work:
- Development and implementation of a project-specific safety plan.
- Collection of sediment and surface water samples from the sludge ponds and nearby surface water bodies, development of a detailed sampling and assessment protocol.
- Drilling of boreholes and installing monitoring wells to assess soil and groundwater conditions within the sludge pond area, and collection of soil and groundwater samples.
