There have been some recent changes in the senior management at Strum Consulting. After founding his Company 26 years ago, Bruce Strum is stepping down from his role as President. Despite this change in role, Mr. Strum still maintains an ownership stake in the Company and will continue on in a senior technical role and will be involved in special projects.

“After starting the Company in 1995 as the only employee here in Bedford, I’m very proud of the Company we’ve become and the success we have achieved.” said Mr. Strum. “We are now a Company with over 60 employees, based in five provinces, and providing a wide range of services to a diverse client base. This change in role for is the culmination of a succession plan that was initiated almost 9 years ago. We have a dynamic and committed ownership group that will carry this Company into the future for decades to come.”

The President role will be assumed by Mr. Shawn Duncan who has been the Vice President at Strum Consulting for the last 9 years. “Shawn has accumulated over 30 years of technical and business operations experience working in this industry. Strum Consulting will benefit greatly from the experience and leadership he will bring to the role of President.”

“It is really a great honour for me to assume this role at Strum Consulting.” Mr. Duncan said. “Bruce and the other owners have built a fantastic company that has established a culture of technical expertise and client-focused approach to providing environmental and engineering services. At the same time as providing a workplace for employees that meets their professional and professional growth needs. I know it is a cliché thing to say, but we often refer to our Company as the Strum family, and it really feels that way. Especially as we all face the recent challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, both in our personal lives and in our workplace.” Mr. Duncan says that the success that Strum Consulting has achieved to date will lay the foundation for continued growth and success well into the future.

Strum Consulting has transitioned over the years into an employee-owned company with 11 shareholders. “We have a diverse and energetic group of owners that cross over all areas of our business.” Mr. Duncan said. “We have owners who have been with the Company for 20 years, and owners who have only been with us for 2, but everyone has the same goal and objective of success. I believe it is because of this diversity of skills, personalities, and experience that we have been able to achieve the kind of success we’ve had.” Mr. Duncan stated.

The newest owner to join the Company in the fall of 2020 was Jim Slade, a 20 year veteran in the industry. “Jim was instrumental in establishing the St. John’s office 2 years ago. Strum was already doing work in Newfoundland and Labrador, but we needed a local presence who was well established in the community. Jim was looking for a company where he could become part of the ownership and then translate his experience into successful growth. So it was a natural fit for both parties.” Mr. Duncan said. In addition to Jim the other owners include Bruce Strum, Shawn Duncan, Chris Boudreau, Randy McIntyre, Peter Nash, Blake Beaton, Jeff Faulkner, Rob McKinnon, Edwin Hiscott, and Nic Strum.

Since its incorporation in 1995, Strum Consulting has been providing a broad range of environmental and engineering services to corporate, industry, and governmental clients across Atlantic Canada. With a staff of 60 engineers, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, surveyors, and technicians, they work to ensure their client’s interests are first and foremost in each of their projects. Their head office is located at 1355 Bedford Highway, in Bedford, NS, but also operate out of locations in Alberta, New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
