The Opportunity
Strum has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated environmental professional with 3 to 7 years of relevant experience to join our Site Assessment and Remediation (SAR) team at our growing Calgary Office. This full-time role offers a unique chance to develop your technical and project management skills while working with a high degree of independence. You will be trusted to take ownership of field programs and client deliverables, operating with support from your team, but with the flexibility to make decisions in real time. For the right candidate, this autonomy creates an excellent opportunity to grow quickly and take on increasing responsibility as our operations expand.

You bring a positive attitude, strong interpersonal skills, a professional demeanour, and excellent verbal and written communication skills to your team. You are physically capable and eager to perform fieldwork duties and can work independently and as part of a close-knit team.
Required Qualifications
- You have a degree or diploma from a post-secondary education program related to environmental studies, geoscience, or environmental engineering.
- You have 3 to 7 years of relevant field-based experience.
- You are proficient in English (written and spoken).
- You possess a valid, unrestricted Canadian Driver’s License.
What You’ll Do
As an Intermediate Environmental Professional, you can expect to spend time both in the field and in the office. In addition to always adhering to Strum’s health and safety program and ensuring safety procedures and protocols are followed, your typical day may also include the following:
- Completing Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessment (ESAs) including both field and reporting tasks
- Coordinating field programs, including all aspects of safety (e.g., ground disturbance) and subcontractors (e.g., drillers)
- Overseeing the drilling of boreholes using various techniques, logging soil, collecting soil samples, and field-screening soil samples
- Installing and developing groundwater monitoring wells and collecting groundwater samples
- Collecting other types of field samples as needed (e.g., surface water, air, asbestos, lead paint, etc.)
- Compiling clear, concise, and accurate field notes
- Tracking and managing field costs and project expenses
- Coordinating/liaising with clients
- Preparing regulatory submissions including Records of Site Condition
- Supporting existing field and reporting teams while demonstrating the ability to work independently and as part of a larger close-knit team
