Wetlands and Watercourse Surveys
As part of ongoing upgrades to hydroelectric facilities, Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI) planned to refurbish the existing dam and create a new spillway channel in a portion of wetland habitat. Initial stages of this project involved a wetland and watercourse survey at the site of the dam located on Donahue Lake in Guysborough County. Strum consulted with NSPI and NS Environment to identify the preferred compensation option and developed a design plan to expand the habitat of an existing, on-site wetland. The expanded wetland will incorporate additional treed swamp habitat, as well as the creation of a vernal pool, which will provide habitat for the colonization of different plant species and refuge for wildlife.
