Strum Consulting is currently looking to expand our Mechanical and Electrical Engineering group and has an opening in our Halifax office for a Mechanical Engineer in Training to join our team.

A Day In Your Life At Strum:

  • Mechanical Design
    • We design the mechanical systems that go in the buildings that people live and work in. From the tallest buildings in Halifax to the first Zero Carbon Building certified by the Canada Green Building Council
    • Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigerant, plumbing and natural gas design for commercial and multi unit residential building
    • Reviewing architectural plans in AutoCAD and Revit
    • Analyzing HVAC and plumbing loads for new and existing buildings
    • Selection and specification of mechanical equipment
    • Creation of construction plans for mechanical systems
    • Design coordination with other disciplines
    • Site inspections
    • Software
      • AutoCAD (MEP), Revit, HAP, Excel, miscellaneous equipment selection tools
  • Project Management
    • Internal management of design projects (budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, client communication)
    • Attend design team meetings (project-based and internal)
    • Prepare contracts documents, review RFIs and shop drawings
    • Prepare building permit submissions, and coordinate approvals and inspections with utilities
  • Safety
    • Adhere to Strum’s health and safety program and ensure safety procedures and protocols are followed and improved as necessary.

What You Bring to Strum:

  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering
  • Applicable experience is an asset
  • CAD and construction industry experience an asset
  • Excellent communicator and team player
  • Work and learn independently
  • Strong attention to detail
