Our St. John’s environmental group is excited to be looking for an Environmental Site Professional to assist us with our sites throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Currently, Strum is looking for an energetic senior/intermediate engineer, geologist, hydrogeologist or scientist with 5 or more years of environmental experience to join our NL team. This candidate will assist our team in performing a wide range of duties associated with phased environmental site assessments (ESAs), sampling programs, site monitoring, risk assessment, contaminant hydrogeology, design/management of remedial programs and hazardous materials assessments. Sites include brownfield redevelopments, remote sites and active commercial and industrial sites with exposure to a range of contaminants to be assessed and managed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop methodologies, organize field programs and coordinate logistics needed for a team to conduct those programs efficiently
  • Perform field programs involving site attendance, monitor well installation, monitoring and sampling and remedial contractor supervision
  • Record detailed and accurate notes throughout all aspects of field programs, compiling technical data for reporting
  • Author documents such as technical reports, develop technical specifications and compile assessments and remedial work plans, estimates, drawings and proposals
  • Carry out project management tasks including project set-ups, scheduling, budgets, client liaison, etc.
  • Support existing field teams while demonstrating ability to work independently and as part of a larger close-knit team
  • Build and/or support client relationships at the appropriate level and work in conjunction with our senior leadership team and explore new business opportunities
  • Desire to be involved with company growth and development throughout Atlantic Canada

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, geology or science (with membership in professional organization where appropriate) with 5 plus years environmental experience and eligible to register as a site professional in the province of NL
  • Willing to travel to sites which may involve long hours, inclement weather and remote locations
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment to a high degree of detail
  • Eager to perform a wide range of technical project types and roles
  • Consulting background/experience with experience in project management considered an asset
  • Experience of managing a portfolio of projects and working with a team of technical professionals to ensure projects are executed in full compliance with quality standards and applicable regulatory criteria
  • Possess professional demeanour and communicate with excellent verbal and written skills in English
  • Demonstrate skills in Word and other current software used in data collection, compilation and presentation
  • Desire to research information related to projects and to develop solutions associated with various technical methodologies, regulatory criteria and industry standard practices
  • Able to plan timelines, manage one’s own schedule and meet deadlines
