Strum is currently looking to expand our Site Assessment and Remediation division and has an opening in our Halifax office for an Intermediate Environmental Engineer/Geoscientist to join our team.

A day in your life at Strum:

  • Manage projects related to Phased ESAs, remediation, risk assessment/management, environmental monitoring, and emergency spill response.
  • Overseeing field programs involving occasional site attendance, contractor supervision, budgeting and scheduling personnel and tasks, and providing technical oversight.
  • Adhering to Strum’s safety program and ensuring safety procedures and protocols are followed and improved/revised if/as necessary.
  • Author and review documents including proposals, technical reports, estimates, drawings, borehole/test pit logs, analytical data tables, and regulatory closure documents.
  • Sign off as the Site Professional on regulatory closure documents including Records of Site Condition.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship for junior and field staff.
  • Support existing field and reporting teams while demonstrating ability to work independently and as part of a larger close-knit team.
  • Assist senior staff with managing and growing the Site Assessment and Remediation division.
  • Build and/or support client relationships and work in conjunction with our senior leadership team to explore new business opportunities.

What you bring to strum:

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering or Earth Sciences/Geology.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working on contaminated site assessment and remediation projects.
  • Registered or qualified for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) in Nova Scotia.
  • Meet the experience requirements to sign off as a Site Professional on regulatory closure documents in the Atlantic Provinces.
  • Consulting background with experience in project management would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment with a high degree of detail.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of projects and working with a team of technical professionals to ensure that projects are executed on time, budget, and in compliance with quality standards and applicable regulatory criteria.
  • Possess a professional demeanor and communicate with excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other current software used in data collection, compilation, assessment, and presentation.
  • Possesses strong technical report writing, reviewing and data analysis skills.
  • Significant experience with completing/reviewing Phase I ESAs, developing scopes of work and overseeing Phase II/III ESAs, delineating contaminant plumes, developing Remedial Action Plans, managing remediation programs, and completing Risk Assessments and Risk Management Plans.
  • Experience with planning and overseeing complex remediation programs, such as multi-phase vapour extraction, groundwater pump/treat, in-situ chemical oxidation, activated carbon injections, bioremediation, etc.
  • Experience with using hydrogeological modelling, plume modelling, and/or risk assessment software would be considered an asset.
  • Significant experience with the Atlantic Risk Based Corrective Action (RBCA) process, CCME Guidance, and the regulatory contaminated site processes in the Atlantic Provinces.
  • Writing proposals for a variety of projects.
  • Desire to research information related to projects and to develop solutions associated with various methodologies, regulatory criteria, and industry standard practices.
  • Able to plan timelines, manage one’s own schedule and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to evaluate and improve both personal and company performance and processes.
  • Willingness to travel to sites within the Atlantic Provinces.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • A valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and registered personal vehicle.
