Groundwater Supply Evaluation
Commercial Development, Tantallon, NS
Strum was retained to determine how to source and ensure a vital supply of high quality groundwater for a growing commercial development. The addition of a number of buildings on site and at adjacent developments threatened to leave inadequate supply of water for potable use. Further, additional development was planned, requiring that a well supply and protection strategy be developed to ensure long term water availability. Strum reviewed existing area demands, bedrock yields, water quality and anticipated growth and demand in the area. Evaluation of yields was verified through development of a hydrogeological budget. Well testing was also completed to verify estimated yield and water quality assumptions. Then a well-field protection strategy was developed, new lands were identified for placement of back up wells and a well-field pumping level and long term down hole monitoring system was specified to ensure pumping levels were being monitored.
