As a result of many reidential, commercial and industrial development projects wetlands are impacted from the placement of roads, lay down areas, site buildings, and even wind turbines. Strum is involved in a number of large scale Wetland Compensation Programs where wetlands, which are impacted by a development, are subject to compensation under the Provincial Wetlands Compensation Requirements. This program requires creation of new wetlands to replace impacted wetlands at a ratio of 2 to 1 or greater.
Strum has developed an inventory of sites across Nova Scotia where compensation is available for these sites. Working with site owners and large developers, Strum is developing compensation plans, site specific hydrologic details, wetland planting strategies and research to help replace these lost wetlands. This exciting initiative is ongoing throughout many areas across the province.
